Total Wellness
At MMHW, we believe there is a need for a paradigm shift in the traditional medical model of mental health treatment. Rather than viewing mental health services solely as the treatment of mental illness, we emphasize a comprehensive approach to prevention, well-being, and integrative health to achieve optimal mental health and wellness.
Through our own services and close coordination with outside professionals, MMHW provides a Total Wellness program for sustained mental and physical health:
Prevention
Preventative services through healthy lifestyle changes are provided in behavioral therapies such as CBT and DBT which target:
- Exercise
- Balanced Eating
- Sleep Hygiene
- Avoiding Non-Prescribed Mood Altering Substances
- Treating Existing Physical Illness
Well-Being
We honor the importance of the interconnected relationships between our minds, bodies, relationships, and work. When we experience dissatisfaction or stress in any one of these vital areas, it can disrupt the entire system and result in physical or psychological symptoms. Comprehensive well-being includes:
- Psychological Well-Being – Psychotherapy and Psychopharmacology
- Physical Well-Being – Referrals for Primary Care Physicians, Personal Training, Gym Memberships, Yoga, and Nutritional Counseling
- Social Well-Being – Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Group Therapy, Social Skills Groups, Special Interest Groups
- Community Well-Being – Coordination with Community Volunteer Services and Updates on Community Events
- Financial Well-Being – Referrals to Financial Planners
- Career Well-Being – Career Counseling and Interpersonal Skills Training
Integrative Health
Research continues to demonstrate the power of the mind-body connection. While many still view these entities as existing separately, the mind is actually embodied and cannot be separated from the way we treat our physical bodies. For a sound mind, one must attend to the health of the body. Similarly, interventions in the body can create meaningful psychological changes. We provide and recommend a variety of integrative health services that help reconnect the mind and the body:
- Reiki
- Meditation
- Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
- Yoga
- Acupuncture
