Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an 8-week course that integrates mindfulness meditation and yoga practice to relieve pain, manage anxiety, cope with illness, increase productivity, improve sleep, sharpen focus, and feel a deeper sense of peace.
Mindfulness Meditation: The mind is known to be a factor in stress and stress-related disorders, and meditation has been shown to positively affect a range of autonomic physiological processes, such as lowering blood pressure and reducing overall arousal and emotional reactivity.
Yoga: MBSR uses yoga to help reverse the prevalence of disuse atrophy from our culture’s largely sedentary lifestyle, especially for those with pain and chronic illnesses.
Since its creation by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at The University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1979, the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program has evolved into an evidenced-based form of complementary medicine. MBSR is highly respected in the medical community and is offered in over 200 of the most prestigious medical centers, hospitals, and clinics around the world. Extensive research has demonstrated that MBSR is a successful complement to traditional medical and psychological treatments and has been proven to treat:
- Anxiety
