Seth Mandel, M.D., M.B.A.

Dr. Mandel received his Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his Residency in Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan. He has been board certified in psychiatry since 2001 and is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Mandel received his MBA from Hofstra University in 2014 with a concentration in Health Services Management. He was a member of the Hofstra Business Consulting Group and was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma international business honor society.

Dr. Mandel has 15 years of clinical experience working with diverse populations. He has worked with clients spanning the entire spectrum of mental illness and substance abuse. He has collaborated extensively with and provided direct supervision to social workers, psychologists, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners, as well as resident and attending physicians. Dr. Mandel has a strong interest in mood, anxiety, and personality disorders. He has held numerous clinical and academic appointments, most recently serving as Director of Inpatient Psychiatry at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine.

Dr. Mandel has many years of experience working with clients diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. He has collaborated extensively with DBT clinicians as part of a consultation team. He previously served as the primary psychiatrist for the Zucker Hillside Hospital outpatient DBT program, and was also the primary psychiatrist for the Zucker Hillside Hospital inpatient DBT program. He received a Borderline Personality Disorder Research Foundation Young Investigator Award for a study involving lamotrigine for the treatment of dissociative symptoms in patients with borderline personality disorder. Dr. Mandel has lectured on the pharmacologic management of borderline personality disorder, including a presentation at the NIMH International Think Tank for the More Effective Treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder. Dr. Mandel maintains a strong interest in the pharmacologic management of the symptoms of borderline personality disorder and co-morbid mood and anxiety disorders and currently serves as the primary psychiatrist for clients receiving DBT treatment at Manhattan Mind Health and Wellness.

Dr. Mandel previously served on the Speakers Bureau of GlaxoSmithKline. He authored a section on the pharmacology of social anxiety in the book Work Makes Me Nervous. He was also interviewed for a one-hour segment in the Andrew Kukes Foundation for Social Anxiety’s production entitled, Social Anxiety: The Untold Story, a 10-hour instructional video about the diagnosis and treatment of social anxiety for mental health professionals. Dr. Mandel is very excited to now be working alongside several former mentees and colleagues at Manhattan Mind Health and Wellness.
