Perry Meltzer, Psy.D.
Dr. Meltzer received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and earned his masters and doctorate in clinical psychology from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Meltzer completed his training at North Shore-LIJ’s Long Island Jewish Medical Center – The Zucker Hillside Hospital. His experience included one-year of specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Dr. Meltzer served as a member of the adult DBT team where he had access to an advanced training course in Practicing DBT to Adherence and Competence provided by Treatment Implementation Collaborative (TIC).
Dr. Meltzer continued his specializations in DBT and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT) as a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Cognitive and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (CCDBT). His fellowship included attending intensive DBT training by Behavioral Tech, LLC (the training company developed by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D.), weekly DBT seminars, and weekly individual supervision from a Behavioral Tech trainer.
In addition to his extensive training in DBT and CBT, Dr. Meltzer completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Norman Fried. His training with children, adolescents, and adults specialized in trauma, grief and loss, and integrative psychotherapy (including psychodynamic, family systems, and existential-humanistic approaches).
While Dr. Meltzer offers a variety of specializations, he integrates his range of expertise and individualizes treatment to meet the specific needs of each person. Dr. Meltzer’s approach to psychotherapy places an emphasis on the strength of the therapeutic relationship and his first priority is to build the trust necessary for growth. His goal is to create an environment that is validating, non-judgmental, and genuine, and at the same time, encourages effective change. Dr. Meltzer strives to facilitate an experience that helps people develop the skills they need, reduce suffering, and create a sense of meaning in their lives.
Dr. Meltzer has built a thriving private practice in Manhasset, NY. He has successfully developed his own unique private practice approach to DBT for adolescents and adults who experience intense emotions and struggle to cope with them effectively. Dr. Meltzer is the founder of MMHW Psychology and he is honored to form the MMHW Consultation Team with his exceptional colleagues.
